Local Account Passwords

Check Description

This check identifies any individual passwords or local password policies that might make your system vulnerable to attack, such as blank user account passwords.

As a security measure, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT operating systems all require user authentication through passwords. However, the security of any system depends on both technology and policy – the manner in which systems are set up and managed.

Note: If you receive the following message: "Password age is "0" your password age is less than your account setting for minimum password age", remember that domain policy overrides local policy. Even though your password might be older than your local policy setting, domain policy will override this setting.
